looking at stars

After Beatrix went to bed Micah and I went outside to our backyard last week and looked at stars and listened to the night sounds. It was fun to lay there and answer his questions. The questions went from how were the stars made, to who made the stars, to shadows, night sounds and other such inquiries. When it was time to go in and go to bed there was much sadness. It is never long enough.

first ice cream

This is the last picture of my nap time efforts today to get this blog caught up from the last two weeks or so. I hope you enjoy the pictures, the videos and the stories from our lives. These days I should probably rename our blog to the not-so-hot harrison house as it is the coldest winter ever! It has helped to give me some relief of my longing for seasons though.

Today we went to see Matt for lunch again and we stopped at Wendy's. Micah says "their chicken nuggets are the very best mama! And I could eat them every day!" I got a shake for Micah to share with Beatrix and when she got a hold of it there was no letting go. Lucky for me my little man is pretty great at sharing. He really is a wonderful big brother and so patient. If the roles were reversed ??? well, let's just say God knew what he was doing when it came to the order of these two. :)

Hope you are having a great week. Love to you from chilly south florida!

before nap time at OneTrueMedia.com

This was filmed yesterday, March 2. Micah always reads before his nap and yesterday Beatrix wanted to also. I quietly recorded this because I was so afraid that if I said anything it would break this magical moment. It is times like these...that just make you sigh and breathe every ounce of it in.

but how does he get out of my heart?

Last Wednesday on the way home from a busy morning of running errands and going to have lunch with Matt, Micah asked me a question that I was not ready for. We were almost home and he said, "mommy, once Jesus gets into your heart how does he get out?" Totally caught off guard I stammered around for a bit before answering him. "Well buddy, Jesus doesn't actually live in your heart, what that means is that you are asking Jesus to come and help change your heart. To help you become more loving and patient and kind." He thought for a bit and than said, "Oh." I told him that it is something that takes a long time. To change your heart. That mommy and daddy are still being changed and that we are still growing, but that we wouldn't be able to do it without Jesus' help. I asked him if he would like to ask Jesus to change his heart and he said, "I need to think about it for awhile". I told him that would be great and I breathed a deep sigh cause some of these things we take for granted are really hard to explain to a 4 year old. I haven't really talked to Micah about asking Jesus into your heart before because, well, frankly I thought he was too young to really understand it.

That night after work I told Matt about our coversation and asked him to bring it up sometime to Micah again. So Thursday night after he got home from the gym and we were all having dinner Matt told Micah that he had heard about our talk the day before. Micah put his fork down and said, "daddy, I have a scientific question for you. How does Jesus get out of your heart once he gets in?" Matt went over all of it again and told him that just like mommy said it takes a long time for Jesus to change your heart. Micah asked about God and that he thought Jesus was God. Matt told him that Jesus was God's son and at that point Micah said, "Whaaaaat?" Matt explained that just like his name was Matt and Micah's name was Micah that they also had the same last name and belonged to the family of Harrison. They were different, but similar. And just like he loved Micah, God loved his son, Jesus. At this point, I got up to put some dishes in the kitchen. When I sat down Matt was asking Micah if he wanted to pray. Micah said, "yes!" Matt asked him if he wanted daddy to pray first and than Micah would follow and Micah told Matt "No thank you, I would like to do it myself." So we all held hands and Micah said, "Dear Jesus, Thank you for this food, I hope you love us, and please come and help to change my heart. In Jesus name Amen." Matt and I looked up from the most sincere and sweetest prayer ever, with tears in our eyes. Matt swallowed the lump in his throat and said, "that was a really great thing you just did buddy. I am so proud of you." And with that dinner was over. It was such a special moment and the begining of a long road of changing a heart.

rocket man

Our neighbor Ashlee and her boyfriend Sean took Micah last week on Thursday afternoon to help launch their rocket. Sadly they couldn't get it put together before the sun set so Friday morning they came and got him again and were finally able to launch it. Micah had so much fun. I showed up at the end to pick him up and snap a couple of pictures. He carried that rocket around all day. That night he asked Matt if they could get a "real" rocket.

a dirty girl and a patient artist

Micah sat in this spot painting this board for over an hour and he loved every minute of it.

What was this one doing? Getting dirtier than you can even begin to imagine. She went all over the yard trying to find any amount of water and proceeding to mix it with dirt. She was covered in dirt and wet wet wet! They are so funny!

northern visitors

The 18th of February, Matt's two brothers, Steve and Peter, came for a visit. It was WONDERFUL to see them. Thursday-Saturday morning the three of them went to the Keys to spend some time together. Steve and Pete went scuba diving while Matt stayed back at the hotel reading and relaxing and than both nights they were able to go out together and have some fun. Saturday morning they got back into town and we were able to hang out for a couple of hours while the kids took naps. I went for work that night and came home to find them hanging out around our outdoor fire pit that Matt built this winter cause it has been so chilly. They were laughing and having a wonderful time. I ended up joining them for awhile. It was so fun to hear them laugh. They are hilarious when the three of them are together! Sunday morning we went to church and than took them to our Sunday morning ritual of breakfest after church. We sat outside cause it was finally a little warmer.

Beatrix chewed on one of the creamers and surprised everyone when it popped open! ...all over Matt!!! hahaha

Uncle Peter and Micah having fun coloring king fish.

I love these dimpled fingers!!
Thank you Autie Vera for the jammies!
Some cuddles and silly faces before bed time.
They rounded off their stay with all three of them getting matching tatoos. Pretty cool! Steve is on the left, Pete in the middle and Matt on the right. I just got the song "Sisters" in my head from White Christmas.... "Two different faces but in tight places we think and we act as one, ahhuh". I guess it applies to brothers too. It was a great time for Matt and for me as I will welcome any chance I can get to see family! Thanks for coming guys. It was really great having you here!!!

Bea's new spot

This is where Bea hangs out now. She especially likes to sit here while I am cooking. She takes everything out of the cupboard and sits here talking away to me.

4 year old definitions

Micah has a friend over tonight and they are both in the bath tub playing. I walked by the bathroom with Beatrix and Micah asked me if they could put more water in the tub. I said sure. As the water is running Micah is splashing it around and saying "hurricane, it's a hurricane!". To which his friend says, "what's a hurricane?" Micah replied, "a hurricane is when a lot of water gets in a crazy mood." Now THAT is a definition!

unplugging

Lent has arrived and it is a special time, isn't it? It has become one of my favorite times of the year. A time to reflect and anticipate the arrival of Easter. 40 days of focused thought, of self discipline, of sacrifice. This year I have decided to give up Facebook for Lent. It was a tough decision and one that is truly a sacrifice. Why? you might ask. Well, it is a way to reconnect. To get in touch with people that you normally wouldn't talk to on a daily basis. For me it has turned into an excuse though...a distraction. I go on the site and read other peoples status. What they are up to. At first it seemed harmless enough, but than something happened. I would "chat" with people on Facebook and we would laugh and be witty and silly and it was great, but than I would see the people that live close to me and they would hardly say two words to me. What is this? I couldn't help wondering why that was. Wasn't it supposed to make us closer? I started to realize that it was a false closeness for some. On a computer, even a blog, there is no one to really critique you. I can get on here and write anything I want. Caution to the wind. I can say things in private that I normally wouldn't talk about to people and I think this is dangerous. It is isolation at its best! Gone are the days of praying, calling a friend to vent, talking to my husband...I get on my on-line diary and verbally spew. So for this lenten season I am giving up a major part of my day. Facebook. If I want to communicate with one of my friends I have made a decision to either write a letter or call them. I started Wednesday and it has been tough. Yesterday I wrote a letter though and it felt really great! 40 days of preperation is wonderful. It is good to be reminded of sacrifice in a society that thinks you shouldn't sacrifice anything if it makes you "happy". Have you thought about giving anything up? Please call me so we can talk about it. :)

v-day continued

After they got back from their implosion we went to church and than to breakfast. After that we came home and Matt and the kids took a nap while I went to take pictures of my friend's little boy who is turning one in two days. It was so much fun! That night we had a baby sitter come and Matt and I went for dinner. It was a lovely night to be together and talk about our life together and the past 10 Valentine's as a married couple. Matt had taken the time to make a little questionnaire. We each wrote down 10 questions for the other one to answer. It was a lot of fun and caused some silliness and some seriousness. We laughed, I cried and just had a wonderful night reconnecting! I am so thankful for my family....for these two babies that light up our life and for the love of my days, Matt. Sensitive, thoughtful, caring and challenging when I need it. Hope your Valentine's Day was full of love! Mine sure was...

Valentine's Day 2010

imploding valentine's day

Matt and Micah started Valentine's Day with a bang! literally. There was a building in downtown West Palm that had been majorly damaged by Hurricane Wilma. The building owners have been trying to get permission from the city for years to demo it. Well, Valentine's Day they got the green light and M and M went to watch along with thousands of other people. It was a fun way for them to start the day of love!

amy

our wonderful friend amy came to west palm to visit her family last week. we got to know her while we were living in toronto and found out that she was from west palm beach after we moved here 4 years ago. (never ceases to amaze me what a small world we live in...) anyway, she came over last week tuesday night for dinner and after i got beatrix to bed micah wanted to study with amy. what does study mean to a 4 year old? well exactly what daddy does. "you underline all of the words in the book so that you can learn to read" --micah.

sunny days outside

it was nice to feel the sun again after all of the chilly days we had in a row.
